Brittany

What does the word Brittany conjure up in your mind? Perhaps it’s the dramatic coastline, shaped and broken by curling waves; perhaps it’s the fresh taste of theworld’s finest oysters. Is it the ever-shifting dunes, the long, golden beaches – or perhaps the granite coastline, shaded pink? Is it the megaliths, maybe the one carried by Obelix in the Asterix books?

Perhaps it’s the stripy jumpers, adorned with famous Breton stripes, forever synonymous with seafaring. Is it ferries, cider, lighthouses, the butter – oh, that butter? Or, more likely, it’s a mix of all these elements, entwined, evoking the idea of Brittany. But what is the reality? What is Brittany today?

For the latest Sidetracked Uncovered travel guide, we spent time touring the north-west coast of Brittany in France. We met the locals, following their guide on where to surf, where to walk, where to paddleboard, where to run – as well as where to eat, where to drink, and where to visit.
