Bosch eMTB-Challenge 2018
EventsThere are several of reasons why an eMTB, an electric-powered mountain bike, may be the preferred option. But the principal grounds is that it is egalitarian, allowing people of all ages and abilities to get high into the mountains.
With this ethos in mind, Bosch eBike Systems has announced their new eMTB-Challenge season for 2018 supported by Trek. The five events will take place in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy and France starting in April.
Announcing the second such event, Claus Fleischer, CEO of Bosch eBike Systems, said that one of the reasons of the success of the format is its broad focus: ‘The eMTB-Challenge offers maximum fun for everyone. The trails are easy enough for experienced hobby bikers to ride while still challenging for professionals’.
Families, partners or groups with varying performance levels can sign up for the eMTB-Challenge together regardless of individual experience with eMTB.
Riders taking part in each of the events will cover around 35 kilometres and negotiate (with the help of the electric power) 1,000 metres of ascent. Various orientation points have to be found along the route – missing one will earn the biker a 10-second time penalty. The races are ridden against the clock, and there’s an emphasis on good orientation rather than just speed.
The ‘Explorer’ is new category aimed at those new to eMountain biking. Explorer riders will take part in the course but without the time trial.
