The Banff Mountain Film Festival 2017

The Banff Mountain Film Festival World Tour is back in the UK and Ireland for 2017, with more screenings and more action than ever before.

The short films, starring the world’s top adventurers on exciting journeys in mind-blowing destinations, are selected from hundreds of films entered into the prestigious Banff Mountain Film Festival held every year in the Canadian Rockies.

This year’s UK and Ireland tour includes 14 hugely diverse films, featuring everything from tales of high-adrenaline action to poignant environmental documentaries. There’s also a significant focus on women in adventure; and the collection stars a number of UK adventurers, as well as athletes and escapades from all over the globe.

Highlights Include:

Doing It Scared

Eighteen years after a catastrophic accident left him partially paralysed, climber Paul Pritchard returns to the Totem Pole in Tasmania to find out if he has recovered enough to finish the climb. This is a film about an extraordinary man on an inspiring life journey, his continuing recovery from a crushing injury and the never waning desire for adventure. It’s a film about determination and acceptance, patience and humility, grace, and ultimately, freedom.

Dream Ride

Enter a dream world where the trail never ends. Where the promise of joy and freedom exists around each bend. Take a magical trip through beautiful landscapes and join us on this DreamRide, a mountain bike adventure unlike any other.

Dog Power

Get a rare view into the world of dog-powered sports and the special bond that forms between dogs and their humans as they live, work and play together. Wannabe musher Kale Casey buys an eight-week-old Siberian Husky puppy called Misty, determined to become a world champion canicross and skijor racer. It soon becomes clear that Misty has other ideas… but by this stage Kale is fascinated by the diverse group of dogs and humans who train, play and race together in the ultimate manifestation of the human/animal bond.

Four Mums In A Boat

When four middle-aged working British mums announced they wanted to row the Atlantic Ocean, their families thought they had lost their minds. At times, the Four Mums certainly agreed. This is the inspirational tale of how four women from Yorkshire became the oldest all-female crew to row across any ocean, despite meeting a hurricane and losing power, water and their steering along the way.

Locked In

Deep in Papua New Guinea’s rainforest, a team of kayakers attempt a committing 13-day first descent in one of the most remote corners of the world. This daunting 40km section of the Beriman River is lined with sheer limestone walls, so the only way out is to ride to the ocean.
