Swedish outdoor specialist Fjӓllrӓven and Californian bike brand Specialized launch new collection to inspire adventure close to home.
‘There are many things in life that excite me, but outside of family and friends, the thing I can’t see myself living without is nature – the sun rising and setting, the movement of the ocean, and the shifts in seasons. I can be happy with little, but not without a sense of being outdoors.’
Fjӓllrӓven and Specialized have launched a long-term collaboration: The Great Nearby, a unique collection of functional hiking and biking gear to inspire adventure close to home.
The partnership is built on the belief that adventure doesn’t have to be far-flung or require months of planning. With The Great Nearby, nature is at the end of a train ride, on the outskirts of town, or even just around the corner.
‘It is key for people to get closer rather than more distant to nature. To see and value the world’s ecosystems, climate, and sensitive balance, and become active stewards for a better future,’ says Henrik Andersson, Global Creative Director, Fjӓllrӓven.
‘It’s the best medicine there is,’ says Erik Nohlin, Industrial Design Leader, Specialized. ‘Nothing is more real, and nothing is more important than connecting with nature. It’s something we can never take for granted – it has to be cherished.’
From bike storage solutions to technical apparel and accessories, the collaboration aims to encourage everyone to discover new trails and perspectives where the air is fresh, and the mind is clear.
The first of two product drops includes multi-functional anoraks, wool T-shirts, hats, socks, scarves, and caps. There is also a collection of carrier packs, backpacks, and a tote bag.
Why was this collaboration important? ‘It was meant to happen,’ Erik says. ‘The gap between riding and hiking is not that big, and as we have now bridged it, we will enable more people to experience the magic on the other side in a fun, inspiring, and savvy way.’
Combining hiking functionality with biking expertise, with materials including G-1000, Vinylon F, Merino wool, recycled polyester, and organic cotton, the collection delivers timeless designs and long-lasting durability.
‘I hope the versatility of the products will open people up to having the same garments whether they are riding, hiking, or working. With more joy, increasing connection to nature, and higher quality of life as a result,’ Henrik says.
