Rider Resilience – The Film
InspirationRider Resilience is a powerful documentary film that highlights the transformative impact of cycling in overcoming life’s toughest challenges. Narrated by legendary rider and Rider Resilience advocate Martyn Ashton, the film tells the deeply personal stories of three individuals who found strength and resilience through cycling.
The film premiered at the Kendal Mountain Festival’s Bike Night in November 2024, where it left audiences deeply moved. Tracy Moseley, former Downhill and Enduro World Champion, described it as ‘incredibly moving and a beautiful reminder of just how powerful the bicycle can be in so many ways.’ Rob Warner, commentator and former professional mountain bike racer, added, ‘This is an unforgettable journey that reminds us cycling can be a lifeline, but it’s the spirit of resilience that truly carries us through – a film that leaves a lasting impression and brought me to tears.’
At the heart of Rider Resilience is the legacy of Nils Amelinckx, the founder of Rider Resilience CIC. After being diagnosed with advanced bowel cancer in 2017 at just 30 years old, Nils turned to cycling, photography, and writing to navigate his journey. Despite the challenges, he transformed his personal story into a movement, inspiring countless others to find strength in cycling. While Nils sadly passed away in 2023, his vision lives on through the Rider Resilience CIC and this poignant documentary.
The film also shares the experiences of Rachael Walker and Sam Rice. Rachael’s story shines a light on her journey of healing after pregnancy loss, showcasing the restorative power of cycling. Sam, meanwhile, reflects on coping with the aftermath of his father’s suicide and his own struggles with depression and substance abuse, describing how cycling became his outlet for recovery and growth.
Proudly supported by ORTLIEB, DMR, 7mesh, and Lyon Equipment, the documentary is a celebration of the mental and physical benefits of cycling, offering a message of hope for those facing personal adversity.
The Rider Resilience CIC, founded by Nils, continues to build a global community dedicated to helping individuals overcome challenges through the unifying power of cycling. The organisation’s mission is rooted in the belief that cycling can be a transformative force for mental fortitude and physical strength.
This is more than a film – it’s a celebration of human resilience and the collective power of the cycling community. As this documentary poignantly shows, cycling is not just a sport – it’s a lifeline, a source of healing, and a path to transformation.
