Tom Denniss has successfully completed the fastest circumnavigation of the world on foot, when he pranced into Sydney over the weekend after almost two years on the road. Previously featured expedition Polar Bears and Paddleboards have finished the Greenland Expedition – an attempt to Stand Up Paddleboard 100km across the Sermilik Fjord towards the Helheim Glacier proving to all the doubters the accessibility of the growing sport.
Tomorrow Philippe and Anna Gatta set out to run the Great Himalayan Trail in Nepal. The 1,700km trail includes over 88km of vertical gain through some of the highest mountains in the world. The pair have allotted themselves six weeks to complete the equivalent of 40 marathons in 40 days. Philippe will attempt to be the first person to run the length of the high route and is also planning to complete a speed ascent and descent of Baruntse.
A team comprising of Dr Mark de Rond, Anton Wright and Murilo Reis have now started their attempt to row a 2077 mile section of the Amazon river. Meanwhile, climbing legends Ueli Steck and Don Bowie are off to face the Annapurna, a peak that has forced Steck back twice in the past. The countdown has begun for Ben Saunders longest unsupported polar expedition to the South Pole. Just under a month to go for the two-man team on an 1,800 mile round trip on foot to the South Pole, retracing Captain Scott’s last expedition.
Here’s a story to put fire in your heart and get you off the couch. Justin Hansen is in the midst of attempting to a new world record by kayaking 420 miles across England. Dubbed the Gutless Adventurer, Hansen suffers from Crohn’s disease and short bowel syndrome therefore in order to survive this expedition he must carry more than 192 litres of IV nutrition and 2,000 items of healthcare equipment, weighing in at nearly 10 stone with him.
