For the Long Run
Produced in Partnership with HOKA
From mountain crossings to first ultras and world records, Charlotte Fisher, Lucy Gossage, and Jenny Tough reveal what the long run really means. More than distance, it’s about resilience, community, and the lessons carried far beyond the trail.
The long run is more than training. It is a test, a meditation, an act of discovery. For three remarkable athletes, it is also the thread that runs through their lives – binding together sport, work, and the stories they share with the world.

For Charlotte Fisher, the long run began less than three years ago. Yet in that time she has secured podium finishes at some of the UK’s toughest races, including the Lakeland 100 and Ultra-Trail Snowdonia. Her fastest known time running around the Isle of Wight’s coastal path wasn’t just an athletic achievement, but a statement of what happens when passion and persistence combine. For Charlotte, each run is as much about calm and mental clarity as it is about distance.

Lucy Gossage brings a different perspective. A consultant oncologist, Ironman champion, and winner of the Montane Winter Spine Race, Lucy sees endurance not only as a personal pursuit but as a way of inspiring others. Through Move Against Cancer, the charity she co-founded, she encourages those living with cancer to find strength and hope in movement. For Lucy, the long run is both metaphor and medicine: proof that resilience can be cultivated step by step.

For Jenny Tough, the long run stretches far beyond training loops or race routes. She has run solo across six mountain ranges on six continents and is now a leading voice in endurance adventure. Her book, Solo, reflects on what these journeys have taught her about life and bravery. At home in the Cairngorms, Jenny continues to find joy in the quiet connection of forest trails, and believes that backing yourself is the most important thing.
On their feet throughout are HOKA’s Mafate 5s – a technical trail shoe built for endurance, comfort, and protection – tested across coastlines, forests, and mountain ridges. Designed for the long run, they become part of the rhythm that carries each athlete forward.
Together, Charlotte, Lucy, and Jenny embody what the long run stands for. It isn’t always defined by miles or medals, but by courage, connection, and the knowledge that each step forward shapes the person you become.
