SalzburgerLand Winter 2019

Produced in Partnership with SalzburgerLand

SalzburgerLand, deep in the Austrian Alps, is an area defined by the mountains. The countless craggy peaks that point to the heavens, have inspired musicians and artists, visitors and sportspeople. To gaze across these Alpine giants is to feel awe rarely felt anywhere else on earth. And when the snow falls, SalzburgerLand becomes a focal point for the skiing world with its 2,750 kilometres of pistes. Beginners to professionals, snowboarders to freeskiers, cross-country enthusiasts to off-piste explorers can all find their own snowy heaven on the slopes.

It’s the colossal geological forces, of course, that makes SalzburgerLand such an incredible area for skiing. But what makes it such a special destination for snowsports lovers is the unique combination of world-class lift access across the region, an unsurpassed breadth of slopes for all levels, perfectly groomed slopes, guaranteed snow coverage and the gnarly off-piste runs. Across the region there are 305km of black runs, 1,305km of red runs and 1,140km of blue runs, as well as some of the best instructors and guides in the world. And when you need a break, there are hundreds of cosy huts dotting the mountains. And for those seeking something more extreme, it’s easy to seek out some incredible freeride spots and deep-snow runs off the beaten track.

In collaboration with SalzburgerLand, we sent a small team of writers, filmmakers and photographers to the region. They explored some of our favourite towns that bring together Europe’s best skiing like a perfect run. Obertauern, Zell am See-Kaprun and St. Johann in Salzburg are distinct in their vibe.
